Mgahinga National Park is Uganda’s smallest national park and is found in the south western part of Uganda near the town of Kisoro.

The entire park is located in Bufumbira County, in Kisoro District. And was gazette in 1991, it’s a part of the virunga conservation Area which is recorded to be 434km.

The Park is about 10 km, It is bordered by Rwanda in the south and to the west by the Democratic

From Kisoro Town, you can take a drive of 55 kilometers by road as estimated, west of kabala.

The Park covers the northern slopes of the three famous Virunga Volcanoes, ie. Mt. Muhavura at a recorded height of 4,127 m, Mt. Gahinga at a height of 3,474 m, and Mt. Sabinyo standing at 3,645 m)

Mgahinga National Park is known to be contiguous with the volcanoes National Park in Rwanda ad Virunga Park in Congo.

Mgahinga is famously known to be one of the two locations in Uganda with the gigantic Gorillas, and the other beingBwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Within the park, you can be assured to have a beautiful of the area by having a foot walk up the clear view point, immediately after from Ntebeko Gate.

The Virungas are home to a large variety of wildlife, including about half the world’s critically gigantic endangered mountain gorillas.

Mgahinga National Park itself is really an amazing area to be in by the virtue of the fact that it lies on the northern slopes of Muhabura, Sabinyo and Mgahinga

The three Volcanoes offer an unforgettable experience and an amazing adventure.

These peaks are well known to be three of the six Virunga volcanoes that extend to the southern limit of the Albertine Rift valley.

The Virungas are home to more than half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorilla.

As recorded, 380 individuals roam the slopes of the volcanoes while the remaining 340 live nearby in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Interesting things to do with in the Mgahinga National Park

There are several things to do within the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Gorilla Trekking

This is the major activity carried out in the vicinity, and one of the most amazing tour experience in the region, the park has a habituated gorilla group (Nyakagyezi)

Trail Hiking

Involves hiking towards Sabinyo, then later trail climbs extending further to the base of Sabinyo stretching through montane forests.

Sightseeing or Sight Viewing of the scenery.

Enjoy the platform of about 800 meters from the park Gate, sight see the features of the park and its neighboring area

Bird Watching and Buffalo Wall

The place a big number of different bird species over 200. Birding here is also a common activity perfomed by tourists
