Mount Muhavura is also known as Mount Muhabura.
The name Muhabura comes from a local language, Kinyarwanda/Rufumbira, which means “The Guide”, It is said so, basing on its historical use of the mountain to offer navigation.
The park can be seen from many parts of Uganda and Rwanda because of its high slopes.
It is an extinct volcano in the Virunga Mountains, it lies on the border between Rwanda and Uganda.
It estimated to stand at a height of 4,127 metres and is the third highest of the eight major mountains of the Virunga mountain range
It makes part of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift.
Muhabura is partly in the Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda and partly in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda.
