Volcanoes National Park is located in a small village called Musanze Rwanda, previously named as Ruhengeri. Normally it takes 2hours drive to drive from Kigali town to the park, Here it is possible for some events to be done in a single day and you return back to Kigali; Gorilla Trekking can be done in a few minutes.
This Park lies in northwestern Rwanda and borders Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. It has the giant mountain Gorillas, and comprises of volcanoes of Virunga mountains i.e. Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo, Karisimbi, Bisoke.
The Volcanoes National Park Rwanda also harbors more than 150 bird species including at least 29 endemics to Rwenzori Mountains and the Virungas. This is a good ole fun for bird lovers, a fine pool of Africa's forest dwellers gives you a sweet taste to enjoy bird watching. Most interesting there is always an annual event called the Kwita Izina, the baby gorilla naming ceremony which takes place every year during the month of September in Rwanda, It is more fascinating good to see. The park comprises of a variety of tree species, the lower montane forests, Neoboutinia forest.
It's vegetation is characterised by L. lanurensis, Senecio erici-rosenii and Lobelia wollastonii. It covers about 25% of the park. It contains swamps, Secondary thicket, meadows, marshesnand small lakes also occur

As we have seen, the biggest key feature is the gorillas, however there are other mammals like golden monkey, buffaloes, black-fronted duiker, spotted hyenas, the bushbuck and some rare species. A customised Safari can also include mountain climbing to the volcanoes plains.
